Your Journey Comes To Life
Cool mountain air fills your lungs as the road winds down from Cusco into the Sacred Valley. The Andes rise in every direction, their peaks layered against the horizon in shades of green, gold, and stone. Villages cling to the hillsides. Ancient terraces follow the contours of the mountains. Rivers cut through the valley floor exactly as they have for centuries.
Morning arrives slowly here. Sunlight creeps down the mountainsides while wisps of cloud drift through the peaks overhead. Farmers move through fields that have sustained communities for generations. Sounds of morning echo across the valley. The scent of wood smoke hangs in the cool air.
Standing above the terraces as the valley awakens below, it becomes difficult to tell where the landscape ends and the story of the people begins.
Moving deeper into the valley, the Andean culture reveals itself through small moments. Bright textiles drying in the sun. Conversation unfolding in a village square. The rhythmic sound of a loom weaving patterns passed from one generation to the next. Bustling markets filled with color, movement, and the unmistakable energy of daily life.
Nothing feels staged. Nothing feels preserved for visitors. Life simply unfolds around you, inviting you to become part of the experience rather than merely observe it.
Walking among ancient stone terraces, your senses come alive to the scale of what was created here. Entire mountainsides transformed by human ingenuity. Agricultural systems that continue to nourish communities today. History is not hidden behind glass. It lives beneath your feet, woven into the landscape itself.
As the days unfold, the mountains begin to draw you higher. The air grows thinner. The horizons stretch farther. Valleys open into vast landscapes where ridgelines disappear into the clouds and wild grasses sway beneath an endless sky.
Standing high above the valley floor, surrounded by peaks that seem to rise forever, perspective begins to shift. The mountains have a way of doing that. Looking across landscapes this immense, curiosity naturally replaces certainty. Wonder replaces urgency.
Some mornings begin on mountain trails leading toward colorful ridgelines and sweeping Andean vistas. Other days unfold among hidden ruins, remote villages, and quiet places where the only sound is wind moving through the grass. The experience is not defined by any single destination. It is created through moments that slowly build upon one another until the entire journey begins to feel larger than the sum of its parts.
Then, almost without realizing it, the moment you’ve imagined for years begins to arrive.
Morning mist drifts through the mountains while ancient stone walls slowly emerge from the clouds. The surrounding peaks rise dramatically above the citadel, creating a setting so extraordinary that photographs struggle to capture its true scale.
Days spent exploring the Sacred Valley suddenly come into focus. The terraces. The villages. The mountains. The stories. Everything feels connected.
Walking through the ancient city, sunlight moves across stone walls built with astonishing precision centuries ago. Clouds drift across the surrounding peaks. The sounds of the valley rise from far below. For a few moments, conversation fades. People simply stand and take it in.
Not because they are looking at a famous place.
Because they are experiencing something that feels difficult to put into words.
Golden light settles across the mountains while conversation lingers around the dinner table. Stories from the trail are retold. New friendships feel surprisingly familiar. Laughter comes easily. The mountains that once felt impossibly distant now feel like companions that have quietly shaped the journey from the beginning.
Eventually, the time comes to return home.
The photographs will preserve the views. The souvenirs will find a place on a shelf. But the things that stay with you are often less tangible. The feeling of morning light reaching the Sacred Valley. The sound of wind moving across the high Andes. The friendships formed through shared experiences. The quiet realization that the world is far larger, richer, and more fascinating than it sometimes appears.
Long after the journey ends, those memories remain—waiting to surface unexpectedly, reminding you of a place where ancient mountains, living culture, and a sense of wonder came together in a way that changed how you see the world.

Wiñay Wayna
Clinging to a steep mountainside above the valley below, Wiñay Wayna is one of the most remarkable sites along the Inca Trail. Terraces cascade down the slopes while stone structures blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Many travelers consider it nearly as impressive as Machu Picchu itself, yet only those arriving on foot ever experience it.
Inti Punku
Standing at Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, Machu Picchu appears among the mountains below. After days spent exploring the Sacred Valley and hours spent following ancient pathways through the Andes, the first glimpse of the citadel often brings a moment of stillness. This was the ceremonial entrance used by the Inca, and arriving here remains one of the most unforgettable experiences in Peru.
An Evening At Machu Picchu
As the last visitors make their way down the mountain, a quieter side of Machu Picchu begins to emerge. Tonight you'll stay at the Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel located at the ancient citadel itself. After a fantastic dinner, many guests choose to relax with a massage or spa treatment before settling in for the evening. Long before the first buses arrive from Aguas Calientes, the pathways of Machu Picchu remain remarkably peaceful. The sounds of the mountains slowly replace the silence of dawn as sunlight spreads across the terraces below. Experiencing the ancient city in these early hours creates a connection that feels very different from the busy images most people associate with Machu Picchu.
The Story Of Machu Picchu
Wandering through temples, ceremonial spaces, and ancient pathways, the remarkable story of the citadel begins to unfold. Massive stones fit together with astonishing precision while the surrounding mountains create a backdrop unlike anywhere else in the world. Around every corner, new perspectives reveal themselves, reminding you that Machu Picchu is far more than a destination—it's an experience that continues to deepen the longer you spend here.
Above The Clouds

Today offers an opportunity to contribute to the people and landscapes that make this remarkable place so special.
Planting For The Future
Working alongside local partners, you'll learn about reforestation efforts designed to restore native ecosystems throughout the Sacred Valley. As young trees find their place in the earth, conversations unfold about sustainability, traditional agricultural practices, and the ongoing work being done to protect the valley for future generations. Small actions often create lasting impact, and today's experience serves as a reminder that meaningful travel can leave a positive footprint behind.
The Wisdom Of The Land

Tomorrow the mountains reveal yet another side of Peru as we journey toward the colorful peaks of Rainbow Mountain.
Long before the first rays of sunlight reach the highest peaks, the mountains begin calling once again. Today's journey leads deeper into the Andes, where colorful ridgelines, sweeping valleys, and high-altitude landscapes create a scene that feels almost impossible to believe until you're standing within it.
The Mountains Of Palcoyo
Unlike the more heavily visited Rainbow Mountain routes, Palcoyo offers a quieter and more expansive experience. As the trail unfolds across the landscape, multiple rainbow-colored ridges emerge from the surrounding mountains, creating a panorama unlike anywhere else in Peru. Reds, golds, greens, and deep earth tones stretch across the horizon while the immense scale of the Andes surrounds you in every direction.
Above The Sacred Valley
At these elevations, the mountains feel wild, vast, and beautifully untamed. The silence of the high Andes creates a sense of perspective that is difficult to find elsewhere. Standing among these colorful ridgelines, it's easy to feel both incredibly small and deeply connected to something much larger.
Returning To Cusco

As traditional Andean musicians fill the air with music and local traditions come to life around you, it becomes clear that this is far more than a sightseeing experience—it's an opportunity to participate in something deeply meaningful.
Saqsayhuamán
Towering above Cusco, Saqsayhuamán is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world. Massive stone blocks, some weighing well over one hundred tons, fit together with astonishing precision. Walking among these enormous walls, it's impossible not to wonder how they were built. Even today, archaeologists and engineers continue to debate the techniques used to create structures so precise that a sheet of paper cannot be slipped between many of the stones.
Standing above the city, sweeping views stretch across Cusco and the surrounding mountains. The scale of the site, the craftsmanship of the stonework, and the mystery that still surrounds its construction combine to create one of the most unforgettable moments of the journey.
The Streets Of San Blas
Following ancient pathways down from Saqsayhuamán, you'll wander into the artistic heart of Cusco. Narrow cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, artisan workshops, and inviting cafés create a completely different atmosphere from the sacred sites explored earlier in the day. Lunch in San Blas offers time to relax, explore, and enjoy one final afternoon in one of Peru's most beautiful neighborhoods.
A Final Evening Together
As evening arrives, the journey comes full circle. Around the dinner table, stories are shared, friendships are celebrated, and memories from the past ten days begin to settle into something more lasting. Looking around the room, it's easy to see that everyone arrived as strangers, but few leave that way.
Standing among the immense stone walls of Saqsayhuamán, you begin to appreciate just how much mystery still remains within the Andes.
Tomorrow the journey home begins, but the memories, friendships, and experiences of Peru will travel with you long after you leave.
Morning arrives a little differently today. The streets of Cusco feel familiar, the mountains no longer feel distant, and the experiences of the past ten days have already begun finding their place among the stories you'll carry home. While departures begin throughout the day, the spirit of the journey remains very much alive.
One Last Look
Perhaps it's one final walk through the city, a quiet cup of coffee in a courtyard café, or a few moments spent reflecting on everything you've experienced. The sights, sounds, flavors, landscapes, and people encountered along the way have a way of staying with you long after the journey ends.
The Journey Continues
The most meaningful adventures rarely end when you board the plane home. They continue through the stories you share, the friendships you've formed, and the perspective you bring back into everyday life. Peru has a way of making the world feel both larger and more connected at the same time.
You leave Peru with more than photographs and memories—you leave with new perspectives, meaningful friendships, and stories that will stay with you for years to come.
Until the next adventure.
Food That Connects You To Place
The Sacred Valley is known not only for its breathtaking landscapes and rich history, but also for some of the most vibrant cuisine in South America. Fresh vegetables, native potatoes, herbs, grains, and locally grown ingredients have shaped life in the Andes for centuries, creating meals that are both deeply flavorful and closely connected to the land.
Throughout the journey, meals become part of the experience itself. Long conversations over dinner, freshly prepared breakfasts before a day of exploration, and shared tables that bring people together after a day in the mountains. From family kitchens and farm-to-table experiences to exceptional restaurants throughout the Sacred Valley, every meal offers another opportunity to connect with Peru's culture, traditions, and hospitality.
Traditional Andean cuisine has historically been largely plant-based, with vegetables, grains, legumes, and native crops forming the foundation of daily life. Gather around the table with families in the traditional community of Misminay and experience Peruvian hospitality firsthand. Prepared using local ingredients and recipes passed through generations, this shared meal offers a meaningful glimpse into daily life in the Andes while creating connections that extend far beyond the food itself.
Farm-To-Table Dining At Munay Sonqo
Many of the meals enjoyed at Munay Sonqo begin just steps from the kitchen in the property's extensive permaculture gardens. Fresh vegetables, herbs, and seasonal ingredients are transformed into beautiful meals by the resident chef, creating an authentic farm-to-table experience surrounded by the beauty of the Sacred Valley.

The Best Adventures Are Shared
Golden light settles across the mountains while conversation lingers around the dinner table. Someone is telling a story from the trail earlier that day. Another is laughing about a moment that seemed challenging in the moment and somehow became funny by evening. The food is nearly gone, but nobody seems ready to leave.
Something happens when people share experiences like these.
Walking ancient pathways together. Watching sunrise over the Andes. Standing before places that inspire awe and wonder. Day after day, strangers become familiar faces, and familiar faces often become friendships that continue long after the journey ends.
The mountains create the setting. The shared experience creates the connection.
Are you looking for experiences that stay with you long after the journey ends?
Standing above the clouds as the Andes stretch endlessly into the distance, something shifts. Not dramatically. Not all at once. Certain places simply stay with you. Months later, the memory of mountain air, ancient stonework, and the feeling of being fully present returns unexpectedly, reminding you how expansive life can feel when you step beyond what is familiar. The landscapes fade into memory, but the perspective remains.
You'll leave with a lasting sense of perspective and memories that continue to inspire long after the journey is over.
Have you been longing for authentic connection built through shared experiences?
Watching the sun rise over the Sacred Valley alongside people who started the week as strangers creates a different kind of connection. Conversations unfold naturally on mountain trails, around shared meals, and during quiet moments of reflection between destinations. Without the distractions of everyday life competing for attention, friendships often form more quickly and more deeply than expected.
There is something powerful about experiencing wonder together. Celebrating a challenging hike. Sharing stories from different chapters of life. Encouraging one another along the way. These moments create bonds that feel genuine because they are built through real experiences rather than circumstance.
You'll return home with meaningful friendships, a stronger sense of belonging, and connections that continue long after the adventure has ended.
Long after the mountains fade into memory, the people you shared them with often remain part of the story.
Preparing For Your Journey
You do not need to be an expert traveler or experienced hiker to enjoy this adventure. A little thoughtful preparation goes a long way toward helping you feel comfortable, confident, and fully present once the journey begins.
We’ll help you understand what to bring, how to prepare, and what support may be available before you arrive.
Altitude & Acclimatization
Much of the journey takes place between 8,000 and 12,000 feet, with Rainbow Mountain reaching significantly higher elevations. We strongly recommend speaking with your physician about altitude medication before travel and beginning any prescribed regimen as directed. Coca tea, Muña tea, hydration, and proper pacing can help support acclimatization, but preventative medication is often the most effective way to reduce altitude-related discomfort.
Fitness & Readiness
This adventure is active but does not require technical skills. Guests will enjoy the experience most if they are comfortable hiking for several hours on uneven terrain, walking stairs, and remaining active throughout the day. Consistent walking, hiking, and general cardiovascular fitness in the months leading up to the trip can significantly improve comfort and enjoyment.
Recommended Day Hiking Gear
A comfortable daypack, hydration system, reusable water bottle, broken-in hiking shoes, sun protection, and layered clothing are recommended. Trekking poles are optional but can be helpful on longer hiking days and at higher elevations.

FROM THE ROAD
Field Notes & Legends
There are no words that fully describe what this experience gave me. It combined movement, reflection, connection, and nature in a way that stayed with me long after the trip ended.
I almost cancelled before the trip because I was nervous about traveling solo, but by the end it felt like I had known the group for years.
The experience gave me space to step away from the noise of daily life, slow down, and reconnect with myself in a meaningful way.
From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and supported. The experience created space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with myself in a way that felt genuine and grounding.
I had been a little nervous about joining because I didn’t know anyone, but the group felt warm and welcoming from the very beginning. The experience exceeded every expectation I had.
Questions People Often Ask
A few of the most common questions we hear before people join their first RDY Adventure.
Can I come solo?
How can I request a roommate?
Can I come with a partner, friend, or family member?
Are kids allowed?
What happens after I book?
Do I need travel insurance?
What is the cancellation policy?
Can you accommodate dietary needs?
Can I drink the water in Peru?
We recommend drinking filtered or bottled water throughout the trip. Safe drinking water is readily available at our accommodations, restaurants, and throughout the itinerary. Bringing a reusable water bottle is encouraged, and staying well hydrated is especially important at higher elevations.
We always recommend the Grayl GeoPress for international travel. You can use it to purify water from the tap and on the trail.
What will the weather be like?
Weather in the Andes can vary significantly throughout the day. Mornings and evenings are often cold this time of year, while afternoons can be warm and sunny. Layered clothing is the best approach, allowing you to comfortably adapt to changing mountain conditions.
How difficult is the Inca Trail hike?
The section of the Inca Trail included on this itinerary is considered moderate and achievable for most active travelers. The route includes uneven terrain, stairs, and elevation gain, but it is significantly shorter and less demanding than the full multi-day Inca Trail trek.
What if I don't want to hike the Inca Trail?
Guests who prefer not to hike can travel by train to Aguas Calientes with a local guide and meet the group at Machu Picchu later in the day. This option allows you to experience the highlights of the journey while honoring your personal comfort level.
What if I don't want to climb Huayna Picchu?
Guests who choose not to climb Huayna Picchu will enjoy additional time exploring Machu Picchu with a dedicated guide. This often results in a deeper understanding of the site’s history, architecture, and cultural significance.
Will the altitude affect me?
Everyone responds to altitude differently. Most guests experience only mild symptoms while acclimatizing, especially with proper hydration, pacing, and rest. We strongly recommend discussing altitude medication with your physician before travel, as many guests find it helpful for improving comfort during the trip and avoiding the unpleasant effects of altitude sickness.
What electrical outlets are used in Peru?
Peru commonly uses Type A and Type C electrical outlets with 220-volt power. Most modern phones, tablets, laptops, and chargers automatically adapt to different voltages, but travelers may wish to bring a simple plug adapter for convenience.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
No. Your guides will assist with translation whenever needed. That said, learning a few basic Spanish greetings and phrases can enhance your experience and create meaningful connections with local communities.
Should I exchange money before arriving?
Most travelers find it easiest to withdraw local currency from an ATM after arriving in Cusco. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger businesses, while cash is helpful in smaller communities and local markets.
Do I need to carry my passport with me?
Yes. We recommend carrying your passport throughout the journey and keeping a digital copy stored securely on your phone. Having quick access to both can be helpful when checking into hotels, boarding transportation, or verifying travel documents.
